As Founder and Principal of via., Frank Leung brings over 30 years of experience to his projects. A graduate of the University of Texas, Austin, the Hong Kong native quickly built a presence in the design scene through working extensively across varying capacities, creating hospitality, high-end residential and commercial projects. His works are characterized by a worldly sophistication and a respect for cultural nuances.
Before founding via., Frank honed his collaborative and planning skills while working as a project manager for a leading Hong Kong developer. Throughout his tenure, he managed all facets of design and construction, from initial concept to project completion. This hand-on experience cultivated a profound understanding of the importance of interdisciplinary teamwork, enhancing his ability to protect a design’s integrity while managing the practicalities of budget and time constraints.
Frank established via. in 2009 with the belief that every design process is a holistic journey where aesthetic disciplines come together to achieve a unified vision, and all projects should be built upon an understanding and respect for the site, the client and the brief. The company name ‘via.’ was chosen to reflect the multi-disciplinary nature of the studio, and collaborations required for innovation in design.
Leading a team with over 40, Frank is committed to creating designs that reflect the studio’s ethos - “respect, passion, delight” - while fostering an all-inclusive culture.
“At the heart of via. is a desire to create delight through design and architecture,” explains Frank. “An open-minded exchange of ideas encourages a shared sense of commitment and respect for the project’s aspirations, while passion and purpose are fundamental to achieving design excellence.”
Since founding via., Frank has become a key figure in the architecture landscape. In 2024, he was honored by Home Journal as one of the Top 50 designers in Hong Kong. He was also named by Tatler in 2021 as one of Asia’s Most Influential creatives shaping the region’s design and innovation. An avid supporter of emerging talent, he served as a mentor for the Design Trust, and also led his team to participate in the Venice Architecture Biennale (Hong Kong Event) for two consecutive editions.
via.’s diverse portfolio includes architecture, interior design, styling and graphics projects for leading developers, hospitality and commercial operators. Aside from locally-based commissions, the studio is currently active across Asia, with ongoing projects in Niseko, Jakarta, Manila, Changsha, Nanjing and Suzhou.
